It will be a clash of the Titans in the South Group as table toppers Somerset take on Surrey in the 74th game of the T20 Blast, 2023. Two points separate the two teams who have been in phenomenal form. Somerset would look to extend their lead and win this game to book a berth in the knockout stages. Surrey, who have been fighting it hard, will look to improve their record at this venue. In the last six seasons, the two sides have won a game each and shared a fierce rivalry, and we expect this game to go down the wire.   

Somerset Preview      

Lewis Gregory's side has done well this season. They have won seven of the eight games and look in excellent form. It was a dominating performance from the side in the last game against Gloucestershire, where they won by 80 runs. They have won four games in a row at home, and Gregory would look to extend this record with a good performance against their toughest competitors in the group.      
 
Tom Banton and Will Smeed are good hitters and will look to set up a big-opening wicket partnership. Tom Kohler-Cadmore, Tom Abell, and Sean Dickson add solidity to the middle order and have done well this season. The side will expect a good show from them. Lewis Gregory, Roelof van der Merwe, and Ben Green add solidity to this line-up in the lower middle order.  

They will like to see good spells from Josh Davey and Craig Overton as they take on a strong batting line-up. Ben Green has been among the leading wicket-takers this season and needs to do well in this game. In this important game, they will also expect good spells from van der Merwe and Shoaib Bashir.

Surrey Preview      

Chris Jordan will be confident about the prospects of his side. They crushed the Sussex Sharks by 124 runs in the last game. Their batsmen are in good form, and Jordan would like to ride this momentum. However, it will be a tougher challenge against Somerset, who have players in good form. The Surrey skipper would like his players to do well and move to the top of the points table.  

The side will need a good show at the top from Will Jacks and Laurie Evans, who already has 327 runs this year. They will expect a good show from Sam Curran, Tom Curran and Jamie Overton in the middle order. The side has depth in its batting line-up, with Sean Abbott, Jamie Smith, Chris Jordan, and Sunil Narine to follow.  

Sean Abbott and Woll Jacks must strike early in the innings, as Somerset has a formidable top order. Sunil Narine has picked 14 wickets, and he will be confident. Sam Curran and Jordan need to support him in the middle overs. Tom Curran, Daniel Worral, and Tom Lawes add depth to this attack.

TOSS: To Bowl First      

It is one of England's best batting surfaces and the smallest grounds. We have seen big scores chased at this venue frequently, and it is never easy to defend a total here. The toss would be crucial, and the side winning the toss shouldn't hesitate to bowl first.  

PITCH AND WEATHER CONDITIONS      

The skies over Taunton will have cloud cover, and we expect to see some assistance for the bowlers. The otherwise flat surface would be slightly challenging to bat on with the ball seaming and swinging around. However, the side batting first would aim at a total above 180 runs to feel safe on this ground.   

OUR PREDICTION      

Somerset has been in excellent form since the start of the season. However, the top order hasn't been consistent, which would worry the side as they take on a strong team. Surrey has depth in their batting and bowling with good hitters till No. 9. There isn't much to choose between the two teams, but Surrey, with their depth in batting and bowling, shall start nose ahead in this game.
